AS Monaco have reportedly turned down a world-record bid from Real Madrid for teenage sensation Kylian Mbappe.
According to the Telegraph, the Spanish giants (and potential La Liga and Champions League double-winners) have made an early move for Mbappe to steal a march on their rivals – but Monaco have apparently shunned a staggering €120m offer for the 18-year-old, a fee that would smash the €100m record set by Manchester United’s signing of Paul Pogba last summer.
The French side have made it very clear that they are not interested in selling (this summer at least) and, perhaps more importantly, the player himself appears to be happy to stay at the Stade Louis II for another year. In that regard, it would probably be easier to sign him after newt year’s World Cup. Monaco plan to offer him a new deal to tie him down for another couple of years, an extension that would presumably see his wages increase and protect his value.
Chief executive Vadim Vasilyev is quoted as saying:
“The plan is to do everything to prolong him (Mbappe) and to do everything that he stays a minimum one more year with us.”
However that has not stopped Real from trying to bring him to the Bernabeu, nor will it stop interest from just about every big club in Europe in securing the prodigy’s services.
Mbappe has enjoyed a stellar season at the Stade Louis II. The young striker has scored 15 goals in 29 Ligue games as Monaco beat Paris Saint-Germain, and was instrumental in Leandro Jardim’s side’s run to the Champions League semi-finals.
He also made his first steps in the senior international setup, making his France debut in Les Bleus’ World Cup qualifier against Luxembourg in March of this year.
Monaco are set to field a number of big offers for players such as Djibril Sidibe, Tiemoue Bakayoko and Bernardo Silva, but look set to keep Mbappe unless something drastic happens in the next few months.
