Verratti, 24, currently plies his trade for Ligue 1 giants Paris St-Germain.
But he’s recently been the subject of much transfer interest from Barca and Real, who are looking to bolster their squads ahead of next season.
Ernesto Valverde’s side are looking for a long-term replacement for ageing star Andres Iniesta and it’s thought several key players at the Nou Camp want the club to bring in Verratti to get them challenging in the Champions League again.
But Real are also thought to be eyeing a move as talk intensifies about Luka Modric’s exit from the Bernabeu.
Now Diario Gol claim Verratti would prefer a move to Madrid over Catalonia.
And their report says the Italian midfielder has even contacted Real president Florentino Perez to persuade the club chief to sign him before Barca get the chance.
Were Zinedine Zidane’s side to poach Verratti ahead of Barcelona, that could be bad news for Liverpool.
The Catalan giants are also thought to be keen on Anfield star Philippe Coutinho.
Although given that the Brazil international signed a long-term deal with the club back in January, Barca would have to pay top dollar to complete a deal.
